AT&T North America

I got my Simcard and cannot get my autopi to connect to 4G. I have spent time on the phone trying to get it straightend out with AT&T. They have no idea what this device is or how to activate it. Ived tried the presets for carriers and it connected to the network for a moment, but I cannot replicate that again.

What is an APN string? The carrier is not familiar with this term.

I supplied them with IMEI info from the chip, we tried different routes to get it connect to no avail.

Has anyone else got theirs to connect through ATT north America?

Hi @Captainsellout,

I just want to confirm that we do have several other AT&T users online in the states. I’m not completely sure what subscribtion they ordred, but you need to ask for a subscription to a 4G router. There are many devices out there that doesn’t have an IMEI number found in AT&T’s database, ours is one of them. This doesn’t mean AT&T can’t provide you with a correct subscription. I believe this is what you are looking for:

Keep us updated on how it goes. Maybe some of the other customers can help us

I had to basically get another phone line for the data that you will need for the autopi. Once ATT activates it then you should be able to use the data for that new phone number/sim card. I am paying $20 a month for the new phone line and it is tied to my existing phone plan with ATT.

I tried a couple presets for ATT to set it up automatically but not sure it was working correctly with the presets. I left everything blank and it seems to be working on my end.

So after a lot of back and forth, AT&T finally figured out how to get it on their network.

Yes, you will be adding another line to your account with data. It’s only listed as “device” on my account with its own phone number. AT&T claims they do need the IMEI number located on the chip inside the AutoPi. Simply remove the top cover and screen shot the chip.

Under APN string we used “broadband” (without quotations)

And for SIM PIN “1111” (without quotations)

Everything else stayed blank.

It took a few minutes to connect, but finally connected to the network.

There appears to be other issues. The device went to sleep last night around 11pm and never woke back up. Now I’m stuck offline again.

Hi Michael

You should be able to see events coming from the device, has it not uploaded anything since?
Do you hear the startup sound soon after you start the vehicle?

Does the device have coverage where you are parked? - If it doesn’t it will just buffer the data and then upload it the next time it has coverage.

Best regards
/ Malte

It has not uploaded anything since. Yes the device does make the startup sound after running the vehicle.
The vehicle had not moved at all when it stopped uploading data. It was in the same spot when it WAS uploading data. I also drove around town with it and it still did not upload any data.

Hi

Can you try to check the log, by executing the following command in the terminal?

There is more but “hub01 autopi io” is showing up as a link and it won’t let me post more than 5 in one thread because I’m a new user. But what you see is the end of the terminal log.

Ah yeah, that’s a feature in the software we use for the community, discourse.
Hadn’t thought about that, il see what we can do about it.

Hmm okay, yeah it seems that it is not connected.
Can you try this?

Thank you for keeping up with me. I’m somewhat embarrassed to admit, apparently I did not have to the sim card fully clicked into place.

I’m not familiar with sim cards other than the ones that are in a small “tray” like on Apple products, which are micro sim cards. Because of the fitment of the shell around the hardware on the device, there is an almost 1/8th inch gap between the plastic and the sim housing, therefore you almost need a tool to be able to fully insert the sim card.

The PI is now online.

I highly would recommend making it more clear in the start up instructions that the sim card needs to be “clicked” into place.

That APN worked for me thanks! I did not need a pin tho.

The APN is not working for me. I have tried the broadband APN name listed above but it will not connect. I am using an AT&T SIM card.

Hi @bsolon524

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide?

Let me know what you have tried and we will be able to assist you.

Yes, I followed the guide, but it just doesn’t seem to want to connect. I am using a Novatel radio, if that helps.

What are the results of the “qmi-manager up” command?

Hi @bsolon524,

Seem like the SIM card isn’t found. Can you check orientation, per the installation manual:

Please notice the click when you insert it.

If the problem persists, the please send a message to support@autopi.io.

They will be able to debug the problem fully.

Update: I have found that my radio does not support QMI.
